The post My first Football match in Cusco: Cienciano vs Carlos A. Mannucci appeared first on 蜜豆视频 Blog.
]]>When we arrived at the stadium we showed the QR codes of our tickets. In the stadium there were groups of supporters with instruments, each forming a separate band with trumpets, drums and charrangos (the Peruvian flute).
When the match started it became clear that Cienciano came to win. We joined in with the crowds chants, chanting in Spanish. Of course, the altitude in Cusco has a huge influence on the performance capacity of athletes. Maybe it was placebo, but it really seemed to have an effect on the players of Carlos A. Manucci. With ten minutes to go, Cienciano fights for all it’s worth. It seems they are going to succeed in pulling the victory over the line, until Manucci manages to get in a goal.
Even though this match ended in a draw I would recommend attending a football match while you are here in Cusco to learn Spanish. The crowd never fails to disappoint and it is a great way to pick up some Spanish phrases as the crowd shouts remate. Plus it is a fun way to get to know the other students, meet locals and be immersed in a fun activity; the day before the match we went shopping for Cienciano shirts.

隆Sigue leyendo!
Mi puesto favorito es el mercado de San Blas es 叠别迟迟测鈥檚.
隆Pru茅balos!
驴Qu茅 es?

The finest vegan restaurant in Cusco with a surprising variety of choices, where the dishes taste as good as they look, and where every meal is made with attention.
Favorite dish:
Chaufa rice with momos 鈥 (Price S/. 24). Arroz chaufa is a classic Peruvian-style fried-rice dish, sold on every corner in Cusco.
Comments: “This is the best chaufa rice I have had so far in Peru. The rice and vegetables are perfectly cooked, crispy, and fried in a sweet, not-so-salty, soy sauce maintaining the perfect balance of flavors. Then there are the Momos on the side, sprinkled with a sweet-sour sauce. Momos are oven-baked, vegetable dough-dumplings, crispy on the outside, tender on the inside.”

Tip 2: On your way-out grab a vegan chocolate trufa (truffle) for S/. 3 (and, thank me later!).
3. Tacomania
The best Mexican restaurant in Cusco with the classics such as taco, burrito, enchilada, fajita, and chimichanga. All meals have vegetarian options and are worth a try. The ingredients are fresh, they serve big portions, and the restaurant has a comfortable and spacious environment, and an open kitchen to view how your next favorite dish is prepared!

4. La Suprema
There is an overload of pizzerias in Cusco, and it is always a debate where to eat the best pizza in Cusco. Any vegetarian pizza of your choice听 will cost between S/. 20 – S/. 30 (depending on the size) and is delicous.听
Tip Add or remove any ingredient to or from your pizza. Never forget to add pineapples!
5. Caf茅 Carvalho
Caf茅 Carvalho is one of the three best places to eat pizza in Cusco. Don鈥檛 get confused by their wide-range of worldly cuisines included on the menu such as authentic Indian food (the owner is from India) and tasty American sandwiches. All meals are delicious, the service is exceptional, and the owners make you feel at home.
Favorite dish:
Pizza 鈥 S/. 20 – S/. 25 (depending on the ingredients). The pizza dough is made of quinoa flour, and the cheese is mixed with mozzarella. This gives the pizza a crusty ground and cheesy taste, just how a pizza should be.
Comments: “I have tried the vegetarian korma multiple times, made with spices and herbs imported from India!”
Tip: Here you can also add or remove any ingredient of your choice.
6. Korma Sutra
An authentic Indian place in Cusco in a cozy setting with delicious Indian food. You can have a glimpse into the kitchen and see (and smell!) how the food is prepared using fresh and authentic ingredients.
Favorite dish:
Vegetarian korma with rice 鈥 S/. 25. The vegetarian korma is with various vegetables, coconut milk and spicy, and has a very creamy texture.Tip: No korma is complete without a Mango Lassie (S/.9!).
7. Limbus Bar
The best restaurant-bar located in the hills, with a stunning view of beautiful Cusco. Also, a great place to have drinks and to socialize with friends.
Favorite dish:
Asian stir fried noodles and vegetables (ask for the vegetarian version, without chicken) 鈥 S/.25.
Comments: The noodles and vegetables are fried perfectly, with the right amount of soy sauce and spices.
Tip: An Anis or Coca tea to help you digest the fried noodles to finish your meal! Or, try their variety of artisanal beers.
8. Luxury Tip: La Bodega
A beautiful restaurant where the prices are somewhat higher than the other places I have included in this list, but it鈥檚 but worth a go for a special occasion.
Favorite dish:
Vegetarian lasagne 鈥 S/. 29: The lasagne is stone-oven baked. It is a relatively small portion, but the taste compensates for it. The lasagne with several layers of pasta with different vegetables in-between, tomato sauce and gratinated cheese are delicious.
Tip: If you have a big appetite, share with someone a medium (8-slice) or with a big group (12-slice) Pizza Azul (with blue cheese) as a starter.
9. Breakfast Tip: Qosqomaki Paneria (bakery):
A traditional bakery in Cusco with a team of young and passionate bakers. Everything is baked fresh daily!
Favorite dish:
Whole wheat bruschetta with gratinated cheese, a sweet casta帽a croissant with a sweet filling mixed with nuts, and a banana-papaya juice! 鈥 S/. 2-10.
Tip: Take their coffee to go, or one of the other pastries to go and enjoy those during the rest of the day!
Other recommendations: other favorites: black coffee, chocolate brownie, croissant bathed in chocolate, cheese empanada.
10. Lunch Tip: Govinda Lila
This is a stand in the San Blas market, only open between 12 and three. It is a hidden jewel. They also serve other daily vegan dishes for S/. 7.
Favorite dish:
Falafel 鈥 S/. 10: The plate consists of two crispy falafel patties, sweet potato fries, one bun, salad, guacamole and a variety of sauces. If available, you will get soup.
Tip: Ask for subsite the white bread for whole wheat bread and while your meal is getting prepared, walk a few stands further to grab a healthy juice-mix for approximately S/. 5 with ingredients of your choice. How about a papaya, banana, strawberry, carrot, beet juice with a shot of honey?
11. Dessert Tip: La Esquina
A freshly baked pie of your choice finished off with homemade, fresh ice cream. Recommended: apple pie with chocolate mint and cookies ice cream or chocolate brownie with coconut and lemon ice cream! The staff here is friendly, and it is very comfortable inside.
12. Fast Food Tip: Subway
Everyone knows Subway, but you probably didn’t know they are in Cusco, too. It is located 5 minutes from the Plaza de Armas, and the opening hours are from the early morning until almost midnight. This makes Subway a great place for a quick eat for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and late-night snack.
There is not much needed to describe this fast-food restaurant. It is famous for its big and versatile sandwiches that you can assemble yourself. For a fast food restaurant, Subway is probably a fresher and healthier option than other known fast food options in town. Plus, they have a vegetarian dish which is very rare for most fast food places in Cusco. So, this is a good go-to fast food vegetarian dish.
Sandwich tip: Vegetarian 30cm Sandwich 鈥 S/. 20
A recommended sandwich at Subway is the basic vegetarian sandwich, which looks like this: sweet oatmeal bread, cheddar cheese, lettuce, carrot, cucumber, jalapenos, pickles, onion, olives, avocado, and as a sauce: barbecue and chipotle southwest.
Tip: Add extra cheese to your sandwich for an additional 1.50S.听 The extra melted cheese adds an extra cheesy taste to your sandwich.
Do we have to say more?
As you see, Cusco is a paradise, not only regarding 鈥淚nca ruins鈥, 鈥榗ultural heritage鈥 or 鈥渘atural beauty鈥.
Cusco is also a great place for foodies as there is a good selection of really nice (vegetarian) restaurants as you听 have seen with this list List Best Vegetarian Restaurants in Cusco. Together with the endless opportunities for sightseeing and having fun, Cusco is the perfect destination in Peru to learn Spanish!

]]>The post Salsa Dancing in Peru! appeared first on 蜜豆视频 Blog.
]]>You cannot come to Cusco, and not dance salsa! Salsa dancing in Peru is amazing! But although salsa is a must, it may be best to take a couple of days of rest before dancing the night away. Cusco is located at almost 3.500 m. and this is extremely high. When you arrive in Cusco you have to get used to the altitude. occurs when you cannot get enough oxygen from the air at high altitudes. When you go too high and fast, your body cannot get as much oxygen as it needs. Your body then starts to breathe faster causing symptoms such as headaches. As your body gets used to the altitude, the symptoms go away. Just give yourself a few days to adjust and before you know it, you are ready to explore the nightlife.
Two weeks after my arrival in Peru and the start of my , I discovered the nightlife in Cusco. Most bars and discos in Cusco are near the 鈥淧laza de Armas鈥.
The Plaza de Armas or main square听is the center of the historic section in Cusco, accessible from all directions. It is a听great meeting place. The Plaza de Armas was called 鈥楬uacaypata鈥 after the construction during the Inca Empire. It functioned as the cultural center, or “heart”. The Plaza is often used for special events like festivals, concerts, and gatherings.
Most bars around Plaza de Armas are open from 11 pm to 2 am. The clubs are open from 9 pm to 5 am. Around 9:30 pm you can go to Inca Team, a small, but cozy club at the corner of the Plaza de Armas and Calle Suecia. Every day you can learn salsa there from 9 till 11 pm. I like it there because it is a club where many locals come dancing.
Salsa is the most popular dance in Cusco, and it is not just in Inca Team where you can learn to dance it. You can also learn in clubs such as, Mythology and Mama Africa. But Inca team is my preference. Every Friday evening there is a salsa lesson in 蜜豆视频 and the teachers from Inca team come to the school and teach you all the moves you need to know. They truly want you to learn, that is why it is a nice activity to do with all your friends. I have not missed a class since I have been in Cusco. We have a lot of fun, especially with the Enchufla, the most basic salsa turn. Turning is not my strongest point.
When people think of salsa, they think of Cuba. But they usually do not know that it is also a big thing here in Cusco and in Peru! Many people think that the slaves of African origin in Cuba invented the clave, which is the heartbeat of the Salsa. However many other people think that Salsa was created in New York in the 1970s. In every club in Cusco you see people dancing salsa. Just join them; Peruvians love to help foreigners learn to dance.
After 11 pm you can go to Mama Africa. Mama Africa is located on the second floor high above Plaza de Armas and is one of the most popular nightclubs in Cusco. It attracts relatively young people. There are locals and also many tourists. It’s a great place to dance and to enjoy music, especially if you like salsa.
As far as I know, you cannot dance salsa in every club back home. You have to go to a special club just for salsa. And the biggest difference with the men in my country (the Netherlands) is that the men can dance here in Cusco. And I mean they can really dance. But also the women are so good! It is my goal to learn to dance salsa in the five months I am living here in Peru for my . Luckily I have plenty of time to learn it.
蜜豆视频 in Peru offers a .
Benefit from the sensual culture of Peru by participating in our Salsa classes, a true cultural immersion experience.
The art of salsa dancing is a quick and easy art to learn; before you know it you will master the rhythm, movement and language!.

]]>Before coming to Peru, I didn鈥檛 know much about Cusco and Peru other than Machu Picchu and a few other famous tourist destinations such as Lima, Nazca, Cusco鈥ut听 I definitely hadn鈥檛 heard of the booming Peruvian cuisine and of the incredible tasteful Peruvian desserts. To me, Peruvian kitchen was just rice, chicken and beans.听 Shame on me. Now, after a few weeks in Peru and living with a host family, I know better.听 Peruvian cuisine is amazing and the country is full of great 鈥榩ostres鈥: Picarones, Mazamorra Morada with Arroz con Leche, and Champ煤 de Guanabana,听 just to name a few.
My personal favorite (at the moment) are the . This sweet ring-shaped dessert (kind of听 doughnut-like but crispy) is made of wheat flour mixed with squash and sweet potato. The dough is fried and sprinkled with a sweet syrup made of chancaca (a concentrate form of light molasses).
Another one of my favorite Peruvian desserts is Mazamorra Morrada with Arroz con Leche. These two are sold both separately and combined, but I think a mixture of both of them is more delicious. Mazamorra is a red, corn based, fruity porridge or pudding. 听It鈥檚 made from purple corn and fruit, thickened with potato flour and spice with cinnamon and/or cloves. Arroz con Leche is rice cooked in milk with sugar and 听– again – cinnamon. People in Peru love it and I noticed that in Cusco it is hard to get around this dessert. Many restaurants have the mazamorra morada on their menu鈥檚 and even more people are selling it in the streets. This dessert can be eaten cold or hot. I prefer the hot version. It is a nice way to warm up in the sometimes cold Cusco. If you want to prepare it at home, here is a good recipe of

]]>One of the things our students always love about Peru during the time they are , is the great variety of vegetables and fruits, and the high quality of food in general. No wonder, as Peru is one of the booming cuisines worldwide for several years now.
Since the country has so many different landscapes and climates, there is a great variety of vegetation. The fruit stalls in the markets in Cusco are, therefore, a beautiful and colorful exposition.
Aguaymanto, Chiromoya, Tumbo and Tuna
Some of the beautiful Peruvian fruits, will not easily be found elsewhere. Typical Peruvian fruits are, for instance: aguaymanto (goldenberry), chirimoya, tumbo, and tuna (or cactus fruit). During the , you will find a lot of this fruit just along the road, especially the Tuna or cactus fruit.
Peruvian Strawberries
All these exotic fruits are the perfect ingredients for amazing fruit juices. Di you know there are also very tasty strawberries in the Cusco area? Most are cultivated in the Sacred Valley of the Incas; the small village of Calca is known as th茅 producer of strawberries in the surrounding of Cusco!
When in Cusco, for sure you have been offered some of those lovely big tasty glasses full of juice by your guest mom or our chef. But also travelers in Cusco can have access to those nice and fresh fruit juices, as there are some nice places where you can buy those. It is even possible to buy medicinal juices. But not all the restaurants and caf茅s have the best juices. Where in Cusco to go for good the best and fresh juices? Keep on reading!
Mercado San Blas
On the San Blas Market 鈥 but also in the San Pedro Market 鈥 there are a lot of 鈥榮talls鈥 where you can buy fresh fruit juices. The juices are all fresh made, right before your eyes. You may even choose your own fruits for a personalized juice combination and have them blended in water or milk, with or without sugar. If you ask for fruit, and they don鈥檛 have in stock, the vendor might go to another stall, and borrow the fruit from a colleague!
For not too much money you will get a huge glass with the freshly made juice, completely to your taste, with 鈥榓umento.’ (a second serving). While enjoying your juices, look around and enjoy the busy and colorful market. If you are in a hurry and have no time to sit down, you can also buy a takeaway fruit juice.
Stall
My favorite 鈥榮tall鈥 at the San Blas Market, is 鈥楤别迟迟测’蝉. All the juice stalls have a sign, with the prices and the names, so it will be easy to find her. Betty is a very helpful and friendly lady. She will do her best to give you the exact juice you want! 叠别迟迟测鈥檚 place is always the busiest one at the market!
Caf茅 Yaj煤煤
If you are looking for a place in the city center of Cusco, I recommend Yaj煤煤, another of my favorite places in Cusco. Entering Yaj煤煤, the first thing you鈥檒l see, are all the fruits. A colorful sight! Yaj煤煤 is a bit more expensive than the San Blas market but still more than affordable. From the second floor, you have a fantastic view over the Plaza de Armas in Cusco.
Beside their juices, Yajuu also sell a variety of sandwiches. And last but not least, I want to mention their medicinal juices: what about a fruit juice for your headache? Or to combat soroche, the Give it a try!
Different 鈥渏uices鈥 : frutillada & chicha morada
There are some drinks in Peru and Cusco that have fruits as their main ingredient, but that are no juice. An example of the 鈥渇谤耻迟颈濒濒补诲补. Frutillada is a fermented strawberry drink; therefore, it normally contains alcohol, but there is also a non-alcoholic version. If you want to try a typical Peruvian drink, very popular among the locals, try this. You will not find this easily in the standard juice bars, but in the typical Peruvian restaurants, especially in the Sacred Valley.
Another traditional Peruvian drink is 鈥渃hicha morada鈥. Also, this is a very famous and popular drink in Peru, originally, from the coast. It is non-alcoholic and also children drink it. You will find it in all Peruvian restaurants. What is it? It is a drink made of the beautiful purple corn (with sugar and cinnamon). Very tasty and one of my favorites!

]]>The post Best Places for Brunch in Buenos Aires appeared first on 蜜豆视频 Blog.
]]>The Argentina capital Buenos Aires is a city that has many options when it comes to places to eat. It doesn鈥檛 matter whether you are looking for a place to have breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner, there is plenty of choice.
Personally, I really love to have brunch during my weekends in Buenos Aires and I like to try new places as well. After many brunches around the city during my , I can truly say that you must visit some of these places!
Another one I would recommend is the always crowded Oui Oui, located in Palermo Hollywood, very close to听one of the听popular s. It鈥檚 a French style caf茅 with delicious brunch combo鈥檚 including coffee or tea and fresh juice! The Bagel with salmon and avocado is a must, but they also have a lot of good muffins and tartas. It鈥檚 also good to know that everything of their bakery is half price between 8 and 9 PM.听If you don鈥檛 like to wait, don鈥檛 go around lunch time in the weekend, as there will be a line. However, it is worth the wait.
The last but definitely least brunch place is Caf茅 Cresp铆n. On first sight it does not look very spectacular but when you have a seat and look at the menu and their prices, you will become happy. If you can鈥檛 really decide whether you want sweet or salty, you can go for the combination with egg, bacon, and cinnamon French toast. This caf茅 is also located in Villa Crespo, near the outlet shopping area. Besides the brunch menu which is mostly available until 12.00 or 13.00, these cafe also have enough choice on their lunch menu.

]]>Susanne has been living and for a couple of months and she loves the Argentine capital. 鈥淚 have followed at 蜜豆视频and it has been amazing鈥, she says. 鈥淢y Spanish has improved a lot. I love the location, and I love Buenos Aires. The city has so many things to offer and I love Argentine culture.
In this blog, I will tell you more about Argentine culture and specifically, about Argentine music. Did you know that music is a great way to practise your Spanish skills? With Argentine accent of course. I really love Argentina music and I鈥檓 happy to share this list* of 11 Songs in Spanish you Must Hear with you!鈥
** TIP: with the听 Spanish Lessons Online you can make a personal lesson plan and include cultural topics like analyzing lyrics!
As strange as it may seem, Argentina is not all about food, but is about music as well!听 Throughout history, this country has produced some amazing musicians and artists. People are still playing songs from the 鈥渙ld鈥 days in Argentina, when they created new ideas and opened up new worlds. It was similar to the influence that music has today, when musical styles like cumbia or pop music impact the public and their lifestyle.
Here you have the ultimate list for the best Argentine songs. In my opinion, those are 11 songs in Spanish You Must Hear:
Carlos Gardel is considered the KING of Tango music by many tango followers and dancers. The sound quality is not the best since this song is from 1930, but who doesn麓t love a little nostalgic sound from a passionate man like Gardel?
This modern song is great for practicing your Spanish! Just listen to and repeat the words: 鈥渆llas cocinaban el arroz / se levantaba sus principios /de sutil emperador鈥. Good luck!
A very famous song because it is sung by the legendary female singer Mercedes Sosa, who is still considered to be an inspiring figure for Argentina.
You will recognize this happy song since it is often played on the radio and television. A must for sure!
What would this list be without some heavy rock from one of the best rock bands in Argentina! Practice your Spanish skills while repeating: 鈥淓lla durmi贸 al calor de las masas, y yo despert茅 queriendo so帽arla鈥, but what that means, you麓ll have to figure out yourself!
This artist passed away, but was a true hit in the 60ies and 70ies. This cute song of his is still played by many of Sandro鈥檚 fans and admirers.
Tango is a must-see when you are in Buenos Aires, and therefore some knowledge about the different tango artists might come in handy. Caminito is one of the legendary songs that you will hear for certain.
A very funky song and the perfect excuse to practice your dance skills while jamming to a 60ties rhythm.
A little blues is always a good idea. Practice your Argentine accent with 鈥淓lla es la flor m谩s bella / vagando por las estrellas / brilla m谩s que el sol鈥.
A classic tango song, and you will probably recognize it since it is internationally famous!
This song is truly Argentine and is all about the famous football player Maradona, the brave man who has worked his way up from being in poverty to where he is now. This song represents the respect that Argentines can have for just one person.
Now is the time for you to open Youtube, or whatever music app you might use, and check out the Argentine culture and practise your Spanish skills with those famous Argentine songs.
